Belfast Harbour has developed and maintains an integrated Health, Safety and Environmental Management System which has been certified against ISO 14001:2004 the international standard for environmental management.Belfast Harbour subscribes to the aims of the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) and complies with the ESPO Environmental Code of Practice. The Harbour is an active participant in the EcoPorts project which seeks to identify and share environmental best practice within the Port Industry.
As a member of a number of environmental forums, the Port continues to actively contribute to the development of River Basin Management Plans, the implementation of Integrated Coastal Zone Management and Biodiversity strategies. The Harbour has a specific focus on climate change and is the first Port Authority in the world to be certified as CarbonNeutral®.
Belfast Harbour has been recognized for its environmental performance by being awarded the top status of Platinum in the Business in the Community ARENA Network Environmental Survey.
